Upon arrival in Almaty, we will head north to the heart of the wild nature of Kazakhstan. We are waiting for two nights in a comfortable campsite among the fragrant sagebrush steppes and the sands of the Taukum desert. On the way, we will make a stop at the lake to observe bird colonies. Overnight at a comfortable premium campsite.
Our campsite is located near an artesian spring, which attracts many local and migratory birds. Early in the morning we see them at the watering hole. Later we will head to the Ili River Delta, a unique natural complex with alternating dunes, swamps and turang groves. In the evening, we will explore the nearby trees and puddles. Overnight at a comfortable premium campsite.
After a morning walk around the camping area, we will head back to Almaty, making a stop at the lake to observe new migrants. Along the way, you can admire the endless poppy fields. Accommodation in a cozy hotel in Almaty.
The ascent to the Tien Shan Mountains will pass through coniferous forests and alpine valleys. Here we will watch birds along the river, by the streams, around the Big Almaty Lake, on the Zhosaly Kezen mountain pass. Overnight in a cozy guest house.
Today we will head east to the Charyn Canyon area, where desert plains give way to steppes, hills, and snow-capped peaks on the horizon. We watch the feathered inhabitants in the gorges, at the springs, in the foothills. Overnight in a guest house.
